    Be honest. Have you read these or do you collect them to impress other people with your intelligence? Just the act of owning them makes the smarts grow, right?

    • @bookclub5291
      @bookclub5291 2 дня назад

      I’ve read most of them. But surely just like owning lots of books isn’t impressive, so reading lots isn’t either. It’s the understanding that those readings bring that is important. No? 🤔

    I once read Thomas Beckets biography which was fascinating. So Chaucer might be able to add to the map I don’t know I was making. What ever is read is always good.

      @@bookclub5291 What do you recommend to read first 1984 or Animal Farm?

    • @bookclub5291
      @bookclub5291 2 дня назад

      Animal farm is a much shorter and easier read, so I would start there.

    Must read first four or five books ofCarlos Caseñadas. Not just one. Striking inner similarities to Gurdjieff ideas. Gurdjieff spokeof a red man that knew legomanizams. Don Juan?

    I'm doing your "study courses" of Gurdjieff.. i jumped ahead I think and listened to beezelabub introduction .. so now I am starting here. Is this the place to start 🤔?? I did listen to chapter one of this book and then here starting the commentary.. ?? I heard of Gurdjieff while listening to JG Bennett..on tape.. in the 1990s about ... but I don't see anything here about that relationship?? Do you discuss anything about this?? .. thanks Bill N.

    • @bookclub5291
      @bookclub5291 3 дня назад

      Hey Bill. Although I am well aware of the Gurdjieff/Bennett relationship, I came in from the Gurdjieff/Ouspensky route. Hence why I place such a strong emphasis on Ouspensky. There are many avenues into Gurdjieff’s thought. I would recommend you start with In Search of the Miraculous, then Meetings with Remarkable men, then Beelzebub. I look forward to hearing of your progress and insights. Feel free to send me an email, and enjoy all of the readings! 🙏

    I’m 25 years old and I have signed up as well. I’ve been swayed away from college a few times in my life. Once due to my parents financial situation and opinions, the second due to my own financial reasoning, the third due to time management problems and finances because I had opened up my first brick and mortar business and since then I’ve gained a foot-hold. I have realized that I can juggle both business life and Peterson Academy. Therefore, during the down-time at my business while waiting for another customer, I’ll be learning alongside the additional 5500 individuals (that’s about how many people have pre-enrolled so far according to Dr. Peterson). I’ve enjoyed learning and have been greatly curious and inquisitive since graduating high school but alas, I have not experienced the formal and structured education process that one would expect from attending college. I am eager to begin my first lecture series in Peterson Academy and put the AI quizzing and tests to work! This is tremendously exciting and I look forward to sharing ideas and having genuine, meaningful conversations with my peers. I’ll most likely take Intro to Psychology or the Plato courses first because I am heavily into both psychology and philosophy, I hope to see you in attendance!

      I too, am interested in all you mentioned, and also think I will start with one of those courses. Although there are others vying for that primary first course spot… looking forward to everything the academy has to offer and making some connections with like minded thinkers. See you there! 😊🙏

    In defence of this. I have an OU degree and have also studied quite a few MOOC courses. So I've already done a lot of online learning. But MOOCs seem to have fallen by the wayside - often becomming too specific. So, I surely have confidence in the general idea of an online academy - but I don't think we learn much going through masses of lectures = videos. I think we learn by doing. My OU and MOOC courses have been technical - maths, physics, and computer science. Technical subjects can be accessed easily because students can show they learnt by doing. But many of the subjects on offer - are social or 'soft' sciences, some with "Big Ideas" and I don't see how one accesses progress for a course on, for example, Nietzsche - not that I'm disinterested in his ideas as I already studied him long ago - on a philosophy course taught via the Socratic method and readings (books & articles pre-read b4 the seminar) I was able to interrupt the seminar to ask questions of the leader (who knew his stuff inside out and back again). No one can interrupt a video lecture to clarify an idea! I know that interrupting a seminar seems a bit extreme but a fellow student (Philosopy PhD candidate at the time) forgave me years later - telling me my interruptions were always relevant and appropriate. So I learnt "big ideas" quite well via the socratic method. Whereas I also learnt little ideas (maths, physics, and computer sciences) more interactively on OU courses. I label them little ideas because there are often many small ideas in technical subjects which build bigger ideas later.

    What is it? How much will it cost? Which subjects are covered in the courses? Which subjects are not covered which should be? How long is a course?, how will student progress be assessed? What kind of certification is on offer?

    • @mavzer0
      @mavzer0 5 дней назад

      It costs like $450CAD for a year. It's 8-hour long coarses, broken into four, 2-hour lectures, with testing/study work inbetween. -Intro to Nutrition -Intro to Psyche -Plato 'The Dawn of Thought' -The Economics of Human Flourishing -The history of Western Music -Symbolism&Christianity -The Psychology of Social Status -Postmodern Philosophy -Intro to Cosmology -Evolutionary Inference -Intro to Neuroscience -Deconstructing Decolonization -The Art of Storytelling -Political Ideologies -The Greatest Leaders in History -Intelligence, Rationality, Wisdom, Spirituality -Intro to Nietzsche -The Boy Crisis -Mathematic courses aren't covered, at a glance, engineering, etc. There won't be any accreditation likely at the start, other than reputational. Peterson admits it's going to be a process getting proper certifications, will likely be structured in years/months of work
